So, in the absence of a specific term for it, when referring to anyone in the Heroes 'verse with powers, I use the term 'posthuman.'
And, since I was on a research binge, I've looked into Posthumanism.
Posthumanism is an actual school of thought, revolving around, obviously, what happens after humans, and in essence, attempting to achieve that state. Posthumanism is broken down into five concepts;
- Antihumanism: a term applied to a number of thinkers opposed to the project of philosophical anthropology.
- Cultural posthumanism: a cultural direction which strives to move beyond archaic concepts of "human nature" to develop ones which constantly adapt to comtemporary technoscientific knowledge.
- Philosophical posthumanism: a philosophical direction which is critical of the foundational assumptions of Renaissance humanism and its legacy.
- Transhumanism: an ideology and movement which seeks to develop and make available technologies that eliminate aging and greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities, in order to achieve a "posthuman future".
- Posthuman condition: the deconstruction of the human condition by critical theorists.
"The term "transhumanism" is symbolized by H+ or h+ and is often used as a synonym for "human enhancement". Although the first known use of the term dates from 1957, the contemporary meaning is a product of the 1980s when futurists in the United States began to organize what has since grown into the transhumanist movement. Transhumanist thinkers predict that human beings may eventually be able to transform themselves into beings with such greatly expanded abilities as to merit the label "posthuman"."
Huh.
Huh.
